The Wings for Life World Run 2023 in Madagascar was an extraordinary experience for us, a small but determined team of non-professional runners.

Our Challenge

The last time most of us engaged in sports was back in high school. That was about twenty years ago. What hasn’t changed is that our free time and weekends are still spent with family, the only moments when the whole family comes together.

That’s where we were, laughing at our sedentary lifestyle, facing the great challenge of the run: to run as far as possible, support our association, and raise funds. Moreover, time was ticking.

Our Goals and Preparation

We laughed at our thin, weak legs. But when each of us officially announced our goal, we had proof that the team was driven by great determination. Collectively, our estimated objective was just under 100km, an average of 10km per runner.

To prepare ourselves, we ran together once or twice before the D-day. Everyone gave their best during these training sessions well. The motivation and mutual support within our team created an inspiring and motivating atmosphere.

May 7, 2023 – Wings for Life Run

As we all lined up at the starting line, a wave of excitement and nervousness swept through our small group. Despite our lack of experience, we were ready to face the upcoming kilometers, aware that every step we took would contribute to helping those in need. We ran on an 11km road that allowed for round trips in this special race.

As the race progressed, our tired legs and gasping lungs bore witness to our determination. The encouragement from our families gave us an extra push to overcome each milestone.

Although we may not have finished among the first, we surpassed our goal by covering 123km. This experience showed us that pushing ourselves beyond our limits and committing to a noble cause can transcend individual boundaries.

The Wings for Life World Run 2023 will be etched in our memories, not only as a sporting event but also as a symbol of solidarity and hope. We proved that everyone, regardless of their level of fitness, can make a difference in the lives of others by giving it their all.
